By engaging students in human rights topics early, we hope to spark understanding and curiosity about these issues that students Winners of the Essay Contest, along with other selected participants, are invited to present their papers during the Human Rights Essay blogger.com colloquium, which takes place each spring semester, is an opportunity for students to present human rights papers and engage in open and lively discussion with other students and faculty members

The city of Kirkwood's Human Rights Commission has announced the winners of the Human Rights Essay Contest for High School Juniors. The winners are: first place, Emilie Willingham; second place, Ellen Fritschle and Emily Goyda; third place, Dajae Williams; and honorable mention, Rachel Kibby.


All five students attend Kirkwood High School. This year's topic question was, "What do you see as the long- and short-term solutions to the problems with the lack of sensitivity towards diversity in Kirkwood? Members of the Human Rights Commission judged the essays based on thematic maturity, content and communication. The essay contest was implemented in and has received a growing response each year from young writers. Return to homepage ×.
